New affordability initiatives in Spring 2021

Thanks to funding as part of President Smatresk’s new affordability initiatives in Spring 2021, the UNT Libraries, UNT Press, and the VPAA Curricular Innovation & Academic Partnerships are pleased to announce three revamped programs to support full-time UNT faculty, including instructors and lecturers, in adopting, adapting, and creating affordable, accessible, and effective course materials for use in UNT courses.

Priscilla Connors

Dr. Priscilla Connors, Associate Professor in the College of Merchandising, Hospitality, and Tourism, is designing a module for her online nutrition class that incorporates ChatGPT as a learning tool where students evaluate the accuracy of essays written by the chatbot. Students gain skills in fact checking as they explore how to ask questions and check the accuracy of essays provided by ChatGPT. 

David Tully

David is a second year Libraries Fellow at North Carolina State University. David is leading a strategic initiative which places the Libraries at the heart of the University’s effort to support vulnerable students, especially those who are economically disadvantaged, transfer students and first-generation students. Within this initiative David is working closely with colleagues to explore and develop the place of Open Educational Resources and Open Pedagogy at NC State.

Joanna Davis-McElligatt

Joanna Davis-McElligatt received her PhD in Literary Studies from the University of Iowa in 2010. She is co-editor of Narratives of Marginalized Identities in Higher Education: Inside and Outside the Academy (Routledge 2018), Narrating History, Home, and Nation: Critical Essays on Edwidge Danticat (U of Mississippi P, under contract), and BOOM! #*@&! Splat: Comics and Violence (U of Mississippi P, under contract).

UNT Open Access Symposium 2020 canceled

As UNT and the UNT Libraries have been responding to the rapidly-changing coronavirus situation, we've been considering what all of this might mean for our upcoming Open Access Symposium.  Due to the uncertainty around travel, self-quarantines, and business lockdowns by state and local governments, we've decided that it's in the best interest of all our participants to cancel the symposium now and allow everyone time to adjust their schedules as needed. On March 25 the Society of Southwest Archives (SSA) announced that their annual meeting would also be cancele

UNT OA Symposium 2020: Program available, registration open

The 11th annual UNT Open Access Symposium will be held May 22, 2020, at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Denton Convention Center. This year’s program will feature presentations and interactive sessions led by teaching faculty, librarians, and publishers from the University of North Carolina, Carnegie Mellon University, MIT, Smith College, the University of Waterloo, and more.
