Can We Rescue the Vanishing Public Domain?

About This Session

The public domain is in danger. The impact of multiple changes in U.S. law, many of which were part of American implementation of international copyright agreements, has drastically reduced the flow of works into the space where they are free for all to use. Nevertheless, the public domain is an integral part of the copyright bargain. This presentation will explore how we got into the current situation, why it should concern us, and what we might do to improve our prospects for a robust public domain.
